Freight Class 175

Freight class 175 covers 4 to under 6 lb/ft³on the current standard 13-band full-density scale. This is density-based guidance; confirm the commodity's NMFC item and carrier tariff before booking.

The current standard density band and NMFC item checks for class 175 LTL freight.

What class 175 means

Density is total packed weight divided by total packed cubic feet. For items using the standard full-density table, a higher density moves freight toward a lower class. Commodity-specific items can assign a different class or use their own density provisions.

Standard density band

4 to under 6 lb/ft³

48 × 40 × 48 in pallet

213 to under 320 lb

At 53.33 ft³ total volume

The pallet example shows the weight range for this standard band at one common pallet size. Include all packaging in the dimensions and weight, and confirm real equipment and axle limits.

Why the carrier's class can differ

NMFC classification can account for more than density. A commodity may have a fixed class or a density sub-provision, and handling, stowability and liability can change the official item. Use this page to check the standard table's applicability, then verify the current NMFC item with the carrier or broker quoting the shipment.

Frequently asked questions

What density is freight class 175?

Freight class 175 covers 4 to under 6 lb/ft³ on the current standard full-density scale. Confirm that the NMFC item uses this table.

Is class 175 guaranteed from density alone?

No. Density is guidance for density-rated freight. The official NMFC item can also depend on commodity, handling, stowability and liability.
