Pallet Calculator
How many cartons fit on a pallet, and how many of those pallets load into a container — from your carton size and stack height.
How it's calculated
Cartons per layer is the best of two footprint orientations on the pallet deck. Layers is how many fit under your maximum stack height once the pallet base is subtracted. Multiply the two for cartons per pallet.
Pallets per container use the published floor counts: a EUR pallet fits 11 in a 20ft and 24 in a 40ft; a standard GMA pallet fits 10 and 20. Cartons per container is simply that figure times cartons per pallet.
Standard pallet sizes
EUR / EPAL pallets are 1.20 × 0.80 m. North American GMA pallets are 48 × 40 inches (1.219 × 1.016 m). EUR2 pallets are 1.20 × 1.00 m. The calculator accounts for each one's footprint and deck height.
Frequently asked questions
How many boxes fit on a pallet?
It depends on the box footprint and how high you can stack. Cartons per layer come from the pallet's deck area; multiply by the number of layers that fit under your maximum stack height.
How many pallets fit in a 40ft container?
About 24 EUR pallets or 20 standard GMA pallets on the floor in a single tier. Double-stacking light freight can increase that where height and weight allow.
What stack height should I use?
For a container, roughly 2.2 m of usable height is typical once you allow for the pallet base. Warehouses with racking may limit you to a single pallet height instead.
